Korean company wins mining rights in northern Cambodia

    Tuesday, 20th November 2007

    Korea.net (South Korea)
    November 15, 2007

A Korean resources developer has won exclusive mining rights in northern Cambodia, an area that could contain large quantities of copper, zinc and iron ore, the government said on Thursday (Nov. 15).

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said the eight mining zones secured by Kenertec Co. cover 1,520 square kilometers -- twice the size of Seoul. It said preliminary surface surveys showed potentially large metallic deposits.

In 2002, China carried out a detailed survey of an area near Kenertec's new claims, and discovered about 600 million tons of iron ore underground.

The ministry said the company plans to conduct more detailed seismic studies starting next year to discern the size of the mineral deposits. Full-scale development of the region will take place after a complete survey is conducted.

"The area has been relatively unexplored in the past because it was a military-controlled zone and off-limits to civilians," said a government official. He said with the military taking steps to allow development, the region is attracting interest from Chinese and Vietnamese companies.

Seoul has been encouraging companies to secure foreign resources in the past few years to cope with skyrocketing raw material and energy prices.

Does any emotion still reside within the depths of your heart? Having the entire world at your fingertips, Is that what you consider happiness? Why? Why do look up into the lonely heavens? Why? Can’t you laugh a little?* I understand this character of yours – This disposition that is incapable of putting anything into words. What was it that came to be in your sequestered past? These eyes of yours, they refuse to meet the world.** All alone with only the lonely night to cradle you, Is this the warmth that you have come to know? Why? Why are you so concerned with the way you look? Why? Can you not open up your heart a little? You’ve been taxed by this heavy burden for so long, It’s time that you learn to accept yourself. Have more faith in yourself... It is those who are free that are stumbling... It is those who are free that are insecure... Why? Why do you look up at the lonely sky? Why? Can you not laugh, even slightly? I can appreciate This reticent character of yours. You only have to try to believe... Why...?

    Sister Lina Birthday

sOn 28 Oct 2007 my neighbor house celebrated a birthday party. As you know, the neighbor is also my friend’s house. It is sister Lina 25th birthday and we celebrated it in a creative way. Since Halloween drew near, sister Lina ordered us to find a costume to wear to her party. We did try hard to find, since most part in Cambodia, or most Cambodian, don’t know Halloween yet. I got myself a white medieval European suit and it suited me. My friend got the Japanese cloth.

As for the party, it was a really amazing one. The meal was really great and the atmosphere was even more greater. People with different kind of clothes (or origins) came together and had fun together all night long. If it wasn’t for Samnang that he needed his car early for the next morning (His car was parked in my house), that I would spent a night there.

The Birthday lady dressed in two suits, but still was an angel. Yeah, she tried to keep me there. I was not drinking so much that night, compare to other event. But I danced. That should be my first time dancing there.

Oh, I met Leeda, the DJ. It was quite a pity she got no dress for the party, since she was late to receive the invitation. But, she was still as cute as ever.

Ronick and Irik (my friends) spent a night at sister Lina’s house while I returned to mine. Some of the party members continued elsewhere that night.

Oh, here are the pictures of the party. http://denithsky.spaces.live.com/photos/cns!7A8D4FF57146328E!725/?startingImageIndex=14&commentsExpand=0&addCommentExpand=0&addCommentFocus=0&pauseSlideshow=0

    Looking for a Piano

Today me and my organ/piano teacher will go look for a piano, a small one thought. My dad told me to look for a piano costs around 100 to 200 USD. So, it will not be anything big or great, it may be piano. I've been studying organ/piano for three months and my teacher suggests that i should get a piano since the lesson is getting harder and need a real piano (coz nowaday I use organ as piano sometimes) to practice. My dad agrees, since he got problems with the organ.

I wish i can get a good piano for me coz I want to play piano very much.

Cambodian Tourist Arrivals Up 19% For First Nine Months

    Thursday, 8th November 2007

PHNOM PENH (AFP)--Tourist arrivals to Cambodia climbed 19% for the first three quarters of 2007 compared to the same period last year, Prime Minister Hun Sen said Wednesday.

"We expect tourist arrivals to reach 2.0 million in 2007," he told a biannual investment and trade meeting.

Cambodia recorded about 1.7 million tourist arrivals in 2006.

The burgeoning tourist sector has injected new life into impoverished Cambodia, which is still recovering from decades of conflict.

The boom in visitors has brought with it new construction, as developers race to meet demand for hotels and resorts, Hun Sen said.

Earlier this year the government also approved plans for several high-end resorts worth $627 million to be built on the islands off of the country's southern coast.

Foreign airlines have been keen to take advantage of the rising number of tourists, with Japan Airlines becoming the latest carrier to offer direct charter flights to Cambodia.

JAL will fly between three major Japanese cities and Siem Reap, the gateway to Cambodia's famed Angkor temples.

Hun Sen said two companies are in talks with officials to form a national carrier, of which the Cambodian government will hold a 30% stake.

Several attempts to form a national airline have failed since Royal Air Cambodge, the country's last carrier, collapsed in 2001 under the weight of mounting financial debts.

The prime minister said negotiators had reached a deal that would protect the government from any losses incurred by the airline.

"We have been waiting for so long now," he said, urging officials to speed up the talks.

Srey Serey Sophone, Komlah Mongkol Borey

This is the song lyric "Jompey Serey Sophone" that I like. However, the girl sings too high in my opinion but she is pretty. And the man isn't much of a boross songha, but it will do lolz.

    Anyway, enjoy.

Tired of crowded tourists while visiting Angkor Wat?

Then look no further than this link.

    Less crowded, more fun

It is a great time, during rainy season to see Angkor Wat without seeing lots of Korean, Japanese, ec that are all over the place.

To tell you the truth, I really dislike being in a huge crowd where I couldn't do my own thing. It is easier to wander around, and have a look now and then, interact with the locals when there are not many people around.

Hm..this is solely my opinion, but I think the word "Angkor" is being overly used too much. I mean, you wont get anywhere in Siem Reap without noticing the word "Angkor" on a shop, tourist site, and whatnot.
For those who don't know, Angkor means a huge city or a metropolis. I think personally, it came from the word "Nokor"  and "Angkor" is a corrupted word of "Nokor". In ancient time, I believe which is my opinion again, Angkor Wat used to be called "Moha Nokor Wat".
I heard the Siamese used to refer Siem Reap province as Maha Nakorn which is in Khmer, Moha Nokor. That is what causes my opinion to be this way.

Also while you are in Tee Krong Siem Reap, don't forgot to check out the musuem. It's new. It's called Preah Norodom Sihanouk Angkor Museum.
Preah Bat Sihamoni took a tourto visit Angkor Wat and he personally blessed a new museum officially just recently.
The museum is 2 storey high and is close to Angkor Wat's complex.
This museum will house many rare and fine 274 buddhist statues from Wat Banteay Kdei which was destroyed, and discovered by a group of Japanese and Khmer research team.
It will probably be opened to the public in Monday 12 November and it will be equipped with high standard security technology.

Here is the news/source to keep you reading.

    "
TOKYO: The Japanese-led research team found the statues in 2001 some six kilometres (four miles) from Angkor Wat, the former capital of the powerful Khmer empire and emblem of Cambodian identity.

The statues will go on display in November in the new two-storey Preah Norodom Sihanouk Museum, named after Cambodia’s former king, team leader Yoshiaki Ishizawa said. “By exhibiting the Buddhist statues, I hope the museum will be able to complement what is lacking in Angkor Wat and that is to offer idols dating from ancient times,” said Ishizawa, who is also president of Tokyo’s Sophia University.

The statues, crafted between the 11th and 13th centuries and some as tall as 1.2 metres, were buried underground after the apparent destruction of a temple.

Looking back at the team’s moment of excavation, Ishizawa said: “Our Cambodian members were getting a bit emotional, with their hands trembling with excitement.”

The museum, which has 1,820 square metres (19,580 square feet) of floor space, is located about one kilometre from Angkor Wat. The museum will be donated to and run by Cambodia.

“What’s important is that the Cambodian people preserve these national treasures with their own hands and proudly talk about them as their cultural heritage,” Ishizawa said.

He said he hoped to expand the museum eventually with a library and the creation of a scholarship for Cambodian researchers.

The museum was made possible through a donation of 130 million yen (one million dollars) by the Aeon Co., a leading Japanese retail chain."

A photo is attached to give you an idea of what a statue would look like.
