October 30 This date, 4 years agoIt was early in the morning, perhaps 6am, that we were gathered at the Sisowath High School ground. The school principals then ordered students to find themselves a small-short stick fits enough for a small flag. After that they gave out number of flags, two kind of flags they are: the national Cambodian one and the Royal sign one. It is free-rule for students to handle both or just one of them. Then we marched off the school, down to the quiet eastern road toward the park in front of the royal palace. It was 8 am and there were already countless number of people over there. We also noticed the Khmer Royal Armed Force there, they were to perform the national anthem and other important rhythm for this special occasion. The seats were still empty, however, because other students from other schools haven’t arrived yet. We found ourselves appropriate places to seat, hope for a full view to the palace, where the king would emerged. We were waiting for over an hour before a proper protocol started and we witnessed the biggest event of the year. At near noon time, the king appeared at the upper front of the palace and made a speech. Every stood up and cheered our new king. Then, the balloons were released to help celebrate the king. Everyone was very happy to be at that special occasion. I don’t even believe that I could be there for such a great moment. A few moment later, the whole gathering was dismissed. Everyone went home with pride.

October 24 Why "ASEAN Clan" Blog does not qualify for E-KhmerWell! I am the leader of the blog: http://www.aseanclan.blogspot.com and I submitted this blog to the E-Khmer administrator long ago. I was hopeful that this blog would be accepted since Cambodia is part of ASEAN and that ASEAN should be learning from each other. The blog has a regular place in the Filipino ranking site, and I hope that Cambodia do the same.
The fact is that, I know that E-Khmer requires blog from Cambodian, and about Cambodian. AC Blog has sometimes posted an article about Cambodia (some done by me), why hasnt it got accepted?
Please, answer me. But you can choose not. I dont really mind that.

This one is another case. He died because of his injury he picked up at a clash with Cambodian soldier a few days ago.
I tell you, actually, the Thai side has many soldiers died. They just don't want to spread the news:

October 19 Thread Assessment By Davan Long Defending The Nation – Part I: Threat Assessment
Friday, October 17, 2008 Comment by Davan Long Dear Fellow Khmers, As the prospect of full scale armed conflict with Thailand is looming, a number of concerned citizens have openly asked questions on our defense strategy and recommendations. Obviously, the best strategy is to live in peace with our neighbors, as long as they respect our territorial integrity. Unfortunately, this is not happening. Our border has been repeatedly encroached. Our bilateral negotiations have yielded no results and we are left with no other option but to defend our motherland vigorously by any mean including the military option. Although we hope to be able to resolve the border issues peacefully at the international court, the situation on the ground clearly shows that large scale armed hostility is increasingly inevitable. Facing such threat, National Defense Association (NDA) has conducted some assessment on the Thai military structure and capability, and would like to communication this vital information to our fellow citizens, soldiers, military planners and government so that we are all aware of what we are up against, and that we can decide what specific counter measures we must take during the military confrontations. As summarized in the attachment, the Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTA) has a combined strength of roughly 301,000 regular plus 200,000 reserve, and an estimated annual budget (2009) of $4.08 billion dollar (US). The RTA consists of three service branches - Royal Thai Army with 190,000 soldiers; the Royal Thai Navy which has 68,000 men (sailors, marines and naval aviators); and the Royal Thai Air Force which consists of 43,000 airmen. Furthermore, there are around11,000 paramilitary known as rangers operating along border areas. Thai military arsenal includes 315 aircrafts, 185 of which are fighters such as L-39, Alpha Jet, AU32, F5 and F16 fitted with advanced medium range air-to-air missiles; over 180 helicopters; 360 main battle tanks; 460 light tanks; 1150 armored personel carriers; 650 field artilleries [11.5 to 39.6Km range]; 240 anti aircraft artilleries; 1 aircraft carrier, 11 frigates; 7 corvettes; 9 amphibious landing ships; 110 patrol boats; Thai defense is organized into four areas - Western and central provinces protected by 1st Army; North Eastern area under the command of the 2nd Army; North and Northwestern area under the command of the 3rd Army; and finally the Southern area protected by the 4th Army. Thai military current involvements include border dispute and drug smuggling surveillance along Burma border, border dispute with Cambodia, and controlling the Muslim revolts in the Southern provinces along Malaysia border. Numerically, Thai military strength and budget are impressive. However according to several military experts, Thai soldiers lack combat experiences and are ill-prepared for battlefields. The bulk of their defense budget goes to the staff salary and only minimum amount is spent on training. Thai generals spend more times to exercise their influences in domestic politics than preparing the troop for combat readiness. This is largely due to the fact that Thai defense strategy from the cold war era relies on US to provide protection against external armed conflict and to resort to political solution to avert potential war. NDA assessment is that Thai government is unlikely to commit huge materials and ground troops for a prolonged conflict with Cambodia. Thailand has nothing to gain from such conflict. However, she is testing our solidarity and determination to fight. If we don't response swiftly and decisively on the border incursions, Thais will continue to repeatedly violate our sovereignty. In part II, NDA will provide some high level recommendations on the tactical manoeuvering in the battlefields. October 17 New report: Samak was ousted because he love Khmer foodNo body would ever experct a Prime Minister was forced to resign because he shows up for a TV cooking show. As a matter of fact, Samak is one famous chief.
He love food, and he love travelling. "Been there, done that," and seems like Samak has done the saying.
Samak used to come to Cambodia on a mission when he was still PM of Thailand. He visited one famous Khmer restuarant, and ordered 3 dishes of Koy Teav. He fallen in love with the food so much that in his speech after he returned to Thailand, he praised the deliciousity of Khmer food.
Soon after, he was ousted.
No wonder it is because he has shown his love for Khmer culture that result in his resignation.
The world would not help Cambodia when Thailand started their invasionEVEN Google Earth has surrendered to Thailand and tries to explain their client that the Temple used to belong to Thailand long time ago. What does it means "long time ago?" If they truly means "long time ago," they should have realized one thing. The temple is 900 years old, built by Khmer king and occupied by Khmer people until the recent 200 years history, that the Siem Kingdom occupied this temple when the Khmer kingdom was weakened. However, the Cambodian side re-claims its rightful ownership in 1962 and in 2008, a more clearified demonstration that the temple truly belong to us. What does GOOGLE EARTH things they are doing?
Of course the world has ignore Thailand invasion. oh no, they didnt ignore, they joined Thailand invasion actually.
Well! hopefully, the video game producer won't try to create game with this stupid concept.

October 06 Visiting our beloved teacher for the Internationl Teacher's DayFirstly, before starting the story, noted that it is FOR, not ON the International Teacher's Day. We went to meet him on 4th, not 5th.
Okay, so, it was the afternoon that we gathered our friends at Paragon Super Market. Then, we set off to buy something for our teacher.
Let me introduce Teacher Keo Narin first. He is a teacher at Preah Sisowath High School, and he teaches "Khmer Literature Study." He is chosen to teach for the honored student of Khmer Literature class (one of the three) for many years, and up until now. He is very good at both lessons and essays. His essay is different but a true standard one. He is very strict when teacing, but very friendly when off-work. That is why we love him.
As the Internationl Teacher's Day draws near, we decided to pay some tributes to him as his students. We missed him so much, and since after passing the exit exam, we never had a chance to visit him. Today is imminent.
The first thing to do is to pick something for him. It was quite a hard choice since we had only 4 companions (including me). So, we decided to buy a nice pen and a perfume. Teacher needs them.
Luckily, we got Kannitha who would carry us with her Tico to school (and that also fit for us 4 ). We arrived at school and searched for our teacher. We saw him at the same time he noticed us. From distant, he could not recall who were us, but when we came near to him, he suddenly remembered. We havent changed at all is what he told us. We chatted with him for 2 hours and mainly talk about our progress in university and the progress of the school. He mentioned alot about his former students and current students, he compared them and he praised us all. He also gave us many advices about future career.
(Left to rite: S.Visal, C. Samsokrith, Teacher K. Narin, and V. Kannitha)
Acutally, we got two intentions to visit him at school that day. The other one was to visit our old classroom. And I couldnt' wait.
I'm coming
As I set my foot to the front of the class, images appeared. They seems as if to greed us, to welcome us home and to appreciate our love. I have seen myself back to that day, and try to think about my mistakes. I have had such a wonderful time with the 12F2, and I am going to remember it for life.
This is the place where I am:
Preah Sisowath has not changed much in structure, but changed very much in appearance. In just 4 years, the school has added new ambiences.
Its
The most interesting addition to the school is the statue of King Javarman VII on the well. Visiting our old school, paying respect to our teacher, and appreciating our past and eduction, is the principal of living. Like history, people should learn about it, and treasure it. We, on behalf of the whole PS Group, would love to serve the country. It is our time to.
October 04 Thai opened fire on CambodiaCNN.com PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) -- Soldiers from both Cambodia and Thailand were wounded Friday in a brief clash along their volatile border, officials from the two countries said.
A Cambodian soldier is shown at the Preah Vihear temple in late July. Cambodian Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said a Cambodian soldier was slightly wounded when Thai troops fired a grenade from their territory. He said Cambodian troops returned fire, with the "military incident" lasting less than a minute. Thai officials initially denied knowledge of the incident, but a Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman later said Cambodian troops had encroached on Thai territory and had been the first to fire, wounding two Thai troops. Tensions along the normally peaceful border between Cambodia and Thailand flared on July 15 after UNESCO, the U.N. cultural agency, approved Cambodia's application to have a disputed 11th century temple named a World Heritage Site. Friday's clash took place about two miles (three kilometers) west of the temple, Preah Vihear. A spokesman for Cambodia's Cabinet, Phay Siphan, said the incident began after Cambodian troops intercepted a trespassing Thai patrol. He said the Thai troops retreated in response to a warning from the Cambodians, but then fired the grenade. Cambodian troops returned fire with AK-47 assault rifles, with the exchange of fire lasting three to five minutes, he said. Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman Tharit Charungvat said Friday evening that the Thai troops had been patrolling in their own territory when they encountered the Cambodian soldiers. "The Cambodian troops shot at the Thai troops first, wounding two soldiers. One Cambodian soldier was also wounded after the Thais responded," he said. Lt. Gen. Wiboonsak Ngeepan, the regional army commander for northeastern Thailand, said it was unclear if the Cambodians intruded intentionally or had strayed into Thailand because "the area is dense forest." Both countries have long claimed Preah Vihear, but the World Court awarded it to Cambodia in 1962. After UNESCO approved the temple's listing as a World Heritage Site, Thailand sent troops to occupy the nearby Keo Sikha Kiri Svara pagoda, also claimed by Cambodia. Cambodia responded with its own troop deployment. The two sides came close to a shootout on July 17 when Cambodian monks sought to celebrate Buddhist lent in the pagoda. Troops on both sides raised their weapons, but no shots were fired, and the Cambodians eventually backed down. Since then there has been a limited troop withdrawal from the area, and talks have been held several times on resolving the conflicting claims, but without much progress. Before Friday's clash was reported, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh told reporters that he and Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat would travel to Cambodia on Oct. 13 to discuss the border issue with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. October 03 Many Banks! But where is the money?Hi all my fellow Cambodian members, I know some of you guys just recently visit Cambodia. You may have been driving or traveling along Preah Norodom Blvd and notice numbers of banks.
There are MANY banks in Phnom Penh rite now, so far, I have counted "10." I am wondering what kinds of trickery behind this. I mean, Cambodian people are not among the top richest people in the world and, Cambodia hereslf is not among the rich country. But why so many banks? Is there any other reasons why bank investors are interesting? after some discussion, my friend points out 4 main reason behind this:
1- Cambodia is a developing country and is going to grow fast later soon. There would be more foreign investors come. So, Bank need to enlarge their network too.
2- Not just for banking services, but for property investment, such as land , building... Cambodia now have no int'l standard office yet. 3- Cambodia people now start to trust in Bank. It's a good sign to invest in Bank. Considering Cambodia is just a developing country, the numbers of bank in this country does not correspond with the number of people who can afford, or would trust the bank. I mean, the bank needs to survive when they acquire certain amount of customers and cash, this due to the study of macro economy, and for rich people in Cambodia dont own 100$ property or has a relevent amount of that. How come those banks survive!
I believe that, even we are to expand our development, the investments doesnt need that many banks. Actually, we have more than 20 now. I heard in other country, they only have 10 to 20 banks, where some are public and some are private banks. For Cambodia, there are nearly 20 private banks now. It is too considerable. One more thing to discuss is the about the establishment. It doesnt seems that they open their bank with proper study on the Cambodia's current economics status, it seems they are opening their banks for another purpose. Cambodia just slips in the corruption list, why many banks come to invest here? They see other benefits than to have people deposites and investers loans. I believe that, in the future, 3 or 4 banks would announce their bankruptcy. October 02 New Theme: Yellow SongNow, replacing the previous theme: Blue Serenity, is the Yellow Song.
The Yellow Song is a dedication to the arrival of my relatives, to their home. This means alot to me... because that is another "turning point" to my life.
Anyway, I am ready for the change, coz at the moment, I also want some changes happen. There is no choice for me this time, it is just a point of time when I got to change due to the fact that I need to start something new. Well! the good thing is, the new start wont happen in this time of year, but next year, EVERYTHING WILL BE COMPLETELY NEW.
So, I will sing this Yellow Song. The color Yellow, cherished by Thai people as a color of harmony. So, I want the future change to be harmonious. As my say: "One Sky One Future," no matter how much you try to avoid it, you will face that ONE future one day.
Change is very important to me, to human. It can brings huge different to someone. I am looking forward for it.
With friendship, true Love and brotherhood
